Men Tie; Women Fall at Ashland

Ashland, Ohio - The Oberlin College swimming and diving teams had their second meet of the season, taking on Division II Ashland University on the road on Saturday afternoon. The Yeomen and Eagles tied 148-148, while the Yeowomen finished on the wrong end of a 183-111 scoreline. 

The tandem of Myles Felt, Isaac Viviano, Erik Fendorf, and Zach Black got the winning ways started early by claiming victory in the opening 200-yard medley relay in 1:35.43. 

Junior Miguel Siwady followed with a commanding win in the 1,000-yard free, taking first place by nearly 14 seconds in 10:10.79. 

Sophomore Chahine Saïd got his strong meet performance off by taking the top spot in the 200-yard free in 1:46.34 and later won the 500-yard free in 4:54.87. The second-year standout was also second in the 100-yard free (48.33). 

Oberlin continued to stack wins as Felt touched first in the 50-yard back (24.43), Viviano in the 50-yard breast (27.03) and Fendorf in the 100-yard fly (53.10). 

First-year Hailey Hamilton bested the field in the women's 1,000-yard free in 11:38.42 and fellow newcomers Soomin Yoo and Andie Kinstle followed with second - and third-place showings, respectively, in the 50-yard breaststroke with times 32.85 and 33.74. The duo would do the same in the 100-yard breaststroke, with Kinstle taking second in 1:13.65 while Yoo was third in 1:15.82. Hamilton returned to take third in the 500-yard free as well with a timestamp of 5:41.51. 

Senior Isabel Pfaff stopped the clock first in the 50-yard free, besting a field of six in an even 25 seconds. She would also take second in double distance with a timestamp of 56.76. Fellow senior Ava Peyton completed the 100-yard IM in 1:06.61 for third place. 

Oberlin won the final race of the day with Pfaff, Yoo, Ari Marrero, and Nyrobi Whitfield combining to post a winning time of 1:45.64 in the 200-yard free relay. 

Oberlin returns home next Saturday to host Mount Union and Wooster in a double-dual. They will also honor their senior class prior to the meet.
