Swimming & Diving Opens Season at Home

Oberlin, Ohio - The Oberlin College swimming and diving teams opened its 2024-25 season on Sunday, hosting its annual early season invite. 

Oberlin welcomed a plethora of competitors from Case Western Reserve University, John Carroll University, and Division II Ashland University. Both the Spartans and Blue Streaks finished last season ranked on the top 25. Oberlin's men's team totaled 619.5 points to finish in fourth place, while the women's squad posted 510 tallies to also placed fourth. 

In the opening individual event of the day, the Yeomen tandem of Miguel Siwady and Chahine Saïd placed third and fourth, respectively, in the 500-yard free with times of 4:50.87 and 4:51.15. Said would add a third-place showing in the 200-yard free in 1:45.27 before going on to win the 1,650-yard free with ease in 16:43.90. 

Senior standout Erik Fendorf later followed with a third-place finish in the 50-yard free in 21.50.  Before the first diving break, he was joined by classmates Myles Felt, Isaac Viviano, and first-year John Polylogidis to place second in the 400-yard medley relay in 3:33.05.

The senior trio would add first-year Zachary Black in the anchor position of the 200-yard medley relay en route to winning the event in 1:34.09. Felt added a fourth-place solo finish in the 200-yard fly (1:59.38).

Fendorf earned Oberlin's first individual win of the day, besting a field of 24 in the 100-yard free in 52.31. Shortly thereafter, Viviano added 17 points to the team total with a second-place swim in the 100-yard breaststroke in 58.80. Fendorf's busy day continued with a third-place finish in the 200-yard free (47.86). 

Senior co-captain Elinor Frost opened up the women's team individual efforts with a sixth-place finish in the 500-yard free in 5:36.85 and classmate Isabel Pfaff would follow with a third-place showing in the 50-yard free in 25.16. Frost also placed fifth in the mile at 20:00.37. 

Oberlin would add 26 points to its team total by placing sixth in the 400-yard medley relay as the grouping of Ava Peyton, Soomin Yoo, Frost, and Nyrobi Whitfield clocked in at 1:57.52.

Peyton returned to add an eighth-place performance in the 100-yard back in 1:05.37.

Oberlin swimming and diving is back in action on Saturday, November 2, at Ashland University. The opening relay is set for 11 a.m.
