Oberlin, Ohio - The split-team weekend started this Friday evening with the Oberlin College track and field teams competing at home in Oberlin, Ohio. Competitors included athletes from Hiram, Fredonia, Case Western Reserve, and Carlow. With such a wide range of teams from schools across the East Coast, the Crimson and Gold Invitational was an opportunity for Oberlin to square off against some new competition. The women's team tallied a total of 11 personal bests while the men's team notched seven.
The weight throw began the meet this evening with a duo of Yeowomen earning personal bests. First-year Quinn Hardy launched the weight to a distance of 12.96m, while third-year
Alira Allen threw for 10.01m.Â
Next up on the docket for the evening came the men's triple jump. First-year Micah Quinones and second-year CJ Cooper were able to notch personal bests, jumping for a distance of 12.01m and 10.82m, respectively. Â
Closing out the field events with personal bests for the evening, first-year Molly Button leaped to a best of 1.45m.Â
The women's mile kicked off the running events for the Crimson and Gold. Second-year Solana Pearl finished in first, running a personal best of 5:44. The men's mile began shortly after, with third-year Sam Mortensen running a personal best of 5:11.Â
In the 60m hurdles, second-year Averi Williams ran a debut of 10.72. First-year
Molly Button also ran a personal best, crossing the line with a time of 12.23. In the men's 60m hurdles, fourth-year
Kit Evans ran a personal best of 10.65.Â
Fourth-year Serafina Yan ran a personal best of 1:10.15 in the 400m, 12 seconds off her previous time. Just behind her was third-year
Melah Lazarus, crossing the finish line with a debut time of 1:12.56.Â
In the women's 800m, first-year Sofia Picucci held strong throughout the race, kicking at the end, and running a personal best of 2:43.Â
The men's 200m saw a debut personal best from first-year Tanish Bommera who blitzed across the line with a time of 25.13.
Mirabel Adams ran a debut race in the 3,000m, finishing in 11:14, claiming a first-place finish.Â
In the men's 3,000m, second-year Daniel Beyda ran a strong race, crossing the finish line with a personal best of 9:27. Following him was second-year
Toby Wells-Spackman running a personal best of 9:49.Â
Select qualifiers will compete in the All-Ohio Championships, hosted at Otterbein, tomorrow on Saturday, February 14 with events kicking off at 11 a.m. Namu Makatiani will compete in the triple jump at the Music City Challenge hosted by Vanderbilt, scheduled to start at 11 a.m.
