Oberlin, Ohio – Concluding a national search, Director of Athletics Communications and Game Day Operations, Amanda Phillips, has announced the hiring of Sophia Anderson as Assistant Director of Athletics Communications.
"We are ecstatic to have Sophia join the Crimson and Gold. She is a natural storyteller and brings a depth of knowledge and insight that will elevate the student-athlete experience on day one." Phillips adds, "Sophia will play an integral role in taking our office to the next level."
Anderson comes to Oberlin after spending the last year working for Amherst College. Previously, she served as the Sports Information Assistant for Smith College and contracted with the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC). This past May, the Vermont native graduated with her Master of Science in Exercise & Sport Studies from Smith College.
Before Smith, Anderson was a cross country and track and field student-athlete for Mount Holyoke and made the NEWMAC Academic Honor Roll twice. During her time as a Lyon, she received several honors for her contributions to the Athletic Communications Department, including the Athletic Director's Award (2022) and the Golden Lyon Award (2021).
"I am thrilled to join Oberlin Athletics and to help share the stories of the student-athletes." Anderson continues, "It is a privilege to support the mission of Oberlin, an institution renowned for its rich history of diversity, inclusion, and commitment to excellence. I would like to extend my gratitude to Amanda, Natalie Winkelfoos, and everyone involved in the hiring process for the opportunity to join the Oberlin community."
Anderson will serve all 21 of Oberlin's varsity teams and begin her duties in mid-July.
