Swim and Dive Continue to Roll at Mount Union

Alliance, Ohio – The Oberlin swim and dive teams turned in an impressive slate of performances on Saturday, collecting a long list of top-five finishes as both squads battled against Mount Union. The women's team lost 194.5-85.5, while the men's team beat the Purple Raiders 163-125.
 
The meet opened with strong momentum in the 200 medley relays, where the Yeowomen quartet of Maya Edwards, Soomin Yoo, Kendall McKelvey, and Nyrobi Whitfield touched second in 1:56.57, while the Yeomen followed with a third-place finish behind James Moll, Charlie Matia, Leo Powers, and John Polylogidis in 1:36.77.
 
The distance events immediately showcased Oberlin's depth. In the 1000 Ffee, the Yeomen swept the top spots with Miguel Siwady winning in 10:14.62, Martin Gomez (10:34.10) taking second, and Philip Cauwels (11:13.15) finishing fifth. The Yeowomen responded with second and third from Kaylee Johnson (11:45.05) and Katherine Noller (11:45.96).
 
Momentum continued into the 200 free, where Cam Maurer placed second in 2:09.09 and Chahine Saïd earned first in 1:49.44. Rookie Kye Marrero added a fourth-place finish to the mix with a time of 1:53.12.
 
Backstroke and breaststroke brought more podiums. Edwards took third in the 100 back (1:06.98), while Moll finished second for the men (55.06) and Gomez added fifth (59.62). In the 100 breast, Matia won convincingly in 1:00.52, Zachary Black took third (1:02.71), and Yuan Wang added fourth (1:06.32). On the women's side, Yoo (1:11.32) placed second, and Andie Kinstle (1:19.38) secured fifth.
 
The butterfly events kept the Obies rolling. Johnson won the 200 Fly in 2:24.02, with McKelvey third (2:30.44). The men matched it with another win from Powers (2:01.08) and third from Emerson Rutherford-Parish (2:05.66).

Sprint free events added more highlights as Whitfield (27.60) placed fifth in the women's 50 free, while Saïd won the men's race in 21.85. Powers later secured the men's 100 Fly win in 54.07, and in the 400 IM, Noller claimed second (5:16.37) with McKelvey fourth (5:24.48).

The Yeomen continued their distance dominance in the 500 free, with Siwady (4:59.67) winning again and Mark Sferra (5:12.00) finishing second. Maurer (5:48.07) added another runner-up finish for the Yeowomen.
 
On the boards, Oberlin swept the top two spots in the 1-meter dive, with Sebastian Lagasse winning at 177.00 and Wang taking second with 116.65 points.
 
The meet closed with more relay success: the Oberlin's Marrero, Yoo, Maurer, and Whitfield took second in the women's 200 free relay (1:46.23), while the Yeomen's team of Saïd, Polylogidis, Powers, and Moll also took second in a tight finish (1:29.10).
 
Oberlin rests before diving back into action for a double-dual-meet next Saturday, November 8 at Hiram. In addition to taking on the Terriers, Oberlin will also face Bethany beginning at 1 p.m.
