Oberlin, Ohio – The Oberlin College swim and dive teams opened their 2025–26 campaign with impressive showings at day one of the Oberlin Early Invite this weekend, posting several top finishes and personal bests in a competitive field featuring Case Western Reserve, Ashland, Hillsdale, and Malone.
On the men's side, the Yeomen finished day one third overall with 249 points, highlighted by standout performances in the relays and distance events. The quartet of
James Moll,
Zachary Black,
Leo Powers, and
Chahine Saïd placed third in the 400-yard medley relay (3:29.21) and second in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:25.40), setting an early-season tone of depth and consistency.
Saïd also impressed individually, taking second in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:40.29, just behind Case Western's John Drumm. Senior
Miguel Siwady and Powers followed with top-10 finishes in the 200 IM, both breaking the 2-minute mark.
The women's team claimed fourth place overall (112 points), led by strong relay and sprint performances. The team of
Soomin Yoo,
Ari Marrero,
Maya Edwards, and
Nyrobi Whitfield earned fifth place in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:42.17) and sixth in the 400-yard medley relay (4:16.61).
Yoo and Marrero tied for tenth in the 50-yard freestyle at 25.42, while Whitfield followed closely in 13th (25.64). First-year
Kaylee Johnson also made a solid collegiate debut, finishing 16th in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:46.15.
The Crimson and Gold return to Carr Pool for day two of the Oberlin Early Invite tomorrow, Saturday, October 11. The squad will celebrate their senior class prior to the start of the meet, at approximately 9:50 a.m. The first session is set to begin at 10 a.m., diving at 1 p.m., and the final session is slated for a 3 p.m. start time.
