Oberlin, Ohio – The Oberlin College swimming and diving teams wrapped up day two of the Oberlin Early Invite in strong fashion, combining for 37 personal bests, multiple top-10 performances in school history, and a new school record from junior
Leo Powers in the 100-yard individual medley.
Powers' record-setting swim highlighted a standout day for the Yeomen, as he clocked a blazing time of 52.48 in the 100 IM to rewrite the Oberlin record books. Powers initially set the record earlier this year, when he swam 52.65 at the North Coast Athletic Conference Championships.
He was joined by teammates
Zachary Black,
James Moll,
Kye Marrero, and
John Polylogidis, who all notched top-10 all-time Oberlin marks in the same event. Polylogidis also cracked the program's top-10 in the 100 freestyle (47.85), while Powers added another top time in the 100 butterfly (50.85).
The Crimson and Gold relay squads were in peak early-season form, turning in top-10 times in all four events.
Chahine Saïd, Black, Powers, and Moll led the 200 free (1:25.40) and 400 medley (3:29.21). Siwady, Marrero, Powers, and Saïd swam the 800 free (7:05.86), and Saïd, Powers, Marrero, and Polylogidis competed in the 400 free relay (3:10.71).
On the women's side,
Soomin Yoo,
Ari Marrero,
Maya Edwards, and
Nyrobi Whitfield took fifth in the 200 free relay (1:42.17), while
Gretchen Lotter,
Kaylee Johnson, Edwards, and
Kendall McKelvey clinched fourth in the 800 free relay with a time of 8:38.61.
Individually,
Andie Kinstle and Yoo added a pair of impressive swims to land among the meet's top finishers. Kinstle set a personal best time of 1:07.41 on her way to a sixth-place finish. For Yoo, the second year notched a third-place finish in the 100 breaststroke in 1:10.41, which stands as a personal best.
In diving,
Elizabeth Huettig (137.30) led Oberlin on the 1-meter board, while
Sebastian Lagasse (186.90) led the men's team, followed by
Yuan Wang (91.55) in his collegiate debut. Lagasse also competed in the 3-meter dive, where he tallied 129.45 points.
Oberlin takes a well-deserved break before they return to action in a dual-meet against Mount Union on Saturday, November 1. First dive is set for 1 p.m. in Alliance, Ohio.
