Cleveland, Ohio – Looking to decrease their times and clinch a berth NCAA Championships, select members of the Oberlin College swim and dive teams traveled to Case Western for the Spartan Invitational this weekend.
In the two-day meet Oberlin competed in a handful of events, beginning with
Nyrobi Whitfield in the 50-yard freestyle race. The sprints specialist turned in a 25.34, her best time of the season. On the men's side
Zachary Black (22.03) and
Chahine Saïd (22.13) raced the sprint, finishing fifth and sixth, respectively.
Taking on the relays,
Myles Felt,
Isaac Viviano,
Leo Powers, and Saïd swam in the 400-yard medley relay where they finished with the third-best time in school history. The team touched the pads at 3:25.05, before a chunk of the relay team competed in the 200-yard medley relay. Minus Saïd, add
James Moll, the team wrote their names in history yet again, with a 1:32.50. The power team capped day one with the third-best time in program history.
Closing out the meet on Saturday, Whitfield raced again, this time making history in the 100-yard IM. The senior clocked in at 1:03.22 to earn the fifth-best race of all-time.
With their fate now in the hands of the NCAA Championships Invite List, the Crimson and Gold wait for Wednesday, February 26 to learn if they'll make the national meet.
Until then, the Yeomen finish the season with 38 top times and eight school records.
Erik Fendorf and Felt recorded NCAA B Cuts in the 100-yard butterfly and 100-yard backstroke, respectively. The Yeowomen put together 12 top times and one school record, set by the women's 200-yard medley relay of
Ava Peyton,
Isabel Pfaff,
Elinor Frost, and
Soomin Yoo at the NCAC Championships.
