Yeo Notes: Oberlin College at Wabash College

Oberlin, Ohio - After back-to-back home games, the Oberlin College football team will embark on its longest road trip of the season, crossing state lines over to Wabash College on Saturday afternoon.

Inside the Series … 
The Wabash College Little Giants hold a 23-2-1 all-time series advantage … Wabash has won nine straight against the Yeomen with Oberlin's last victory coming in 2012 when they prevailed 31-16 when the Little Giants were ranked 10th in the country … It was a historic day for QB Josh Mandel as he threw for 353 yards and four TDs - two of which went to Robin Witjes, who also threw for a 50-yard touchdown in the win (Watch it Here).

Scouting the Little Giants … 
Wabash opened the season by sneaking out a 29-28 victory over Hampden-Sydney College and then last week fell to FCS member Butler, 47-21 … In 2022 the Little Giants finished 7-3, which included a 6-2 mark in the NCAC … With two tough opponents to start the year, Wabash is in the middle pack in the conference in scoring offense (6th / 25 ppg), scoring defense (5th / 37.5 ppg), total offense ( 5th / 368.5 ypg), and total defense (420.5 ypg) … Sophomore Jake Pasch, whose forced fumble setup the game-winning drive against Hampden-Sydney, is third in the league with an average of 8.5 tackles per game … Veteran QB Liam Thompson, who has four TDs and two INTs, is averaging 237 yards per game passing, ranking sixth in the conference.  

Last Time Against the Little Giants … 
Wabash scored a touchdown on each of its first six possessions on its way to finishing the game with 667 yards of offense in a 66-20 win on October 22, 2022 … Then freshman wide out Ben Ephraim was a bright spot for the Yeomen, posting a career-high six catches for a career-best 108 yards and his first-career touchdown … Running back Greg Lane registered 64 yards and a touchdown to pace the ground attack … Rookie wide receiver Connor Steele also capped a 9-play, 75-yard drive with a 5-yard TD reception.
 
Trending Upward … 
The Yeomen have seen some early returns through the first three games of this season compared to the first three contests of last year … In 2023 Oberlin has rushed for 426 yards and has produced 1,065 yards of total offense … In 2022 those numbers were just 255 yards rushing and 973 total yards … Additionally, Oberlin has produced three more first downs (64-61), converted four more third downs (21-17), and has recorded three more sacks (7-4). 

A Running Man …
Sophomore quarterback Drew Nye leads the NCAC in rushing yards among all non-running backs, sitting seventh in the league overall with an average of 58.7 yards per game with 176 yards on 28 attempts … His 6.3 yards per carry also ties for third in the NCAC.

Eeny, Meeny, Miny, Moe …
The Yeomen have used a diverse arsenal on offense this season as eight different Yeomen have at least one rushing attempt while 16 different players have caught at least one pass … Four different players have caught a TD pass with Steele leading the way with two.

Big Back Benison … 
First-year Jamykle Benison has made the most of his limited opportunities thus far, racking up 67 yards on just 13 carries for an average of 5.2 yards per attempt … The physical 5-foot-9, 200-pound specimen has also scored the lone Yeomen rushing touchdown so far this season, breaking multiple tackles on his way into the end zone from 28 yards out in the team's 37-35 win over Concordia Chicago on September 9.
