Oberlin, Ohio – Head Football Coach
John Pont welcomes the return of
Jacob Epps to the Oberlin football program as the Assistant Director of Recruiting and Alumni Engagement.
"Jacob is an excellent addition to our staff because he understands Oberlin, our program, and the type of scholar-athletes who thrive here. Having just graduated this past spring, he brings a current perspective on the scholar-athlete experience and can connect with recruits and families in an authentic way. We're excited to have him continue representing Oberlin Football in this new role," Pont adds.
A defensive back and wide receiver for Oberlin, Epps was heavily involved in all aspects of the community, from football all the way to the greater campus community. During each of the four years Oberlin football teamed up with Go4theGoal, Epps was a top fundraiser, helping the organization to raise funds and awareness for pediatric cancer in Northeast Ohio. Helping with the recruiting efforts prior to graduation, Epps hosted seven recruits who since then have committed to Oberlin and contributed to the program.
Beyond the football team, Epps was a member of the Black Student-Athlete Group (BSAG) and a BSAG liaison for Oberlin's Black Student Union ABUSUA. In the spring of his sophomore year, Epps received the Newton Award, awarded to a member of BSAG for their involvement, commitment to the group, outreach, and recruitment. During his junior year, the Chicago native was the Co-Chair of BSAG, helping lead all of the group's initiatives and programming. During his time, he was also an athletics representative for the Oberlin College Student Senate. Outside of Oberlin, Epps has also held a managerial position for LA Fitness and has experience as a Human Resources Intern.
A four-year member of the football team and a two-year member of the baseball team during his sophomore and junior years, Epps graduated with his Bachelor's degree from Oberlin in May 2026. A member of the first Communications and Media graduating class, Epps also majored in Sociology with a minor in Africana Studies.
"After spending the last four years playing football at Oberlin College, I'm extremely grateful and excited for the opportunity to continue being a part of this program in a new role. Throughout my time here, I developed a strong passion for recruiting and helping scholar-athletes find the right place to succeed both on and off the field. I'm looking forward to building relationships with future Yeomen and helping bring the next generation of scholar-athletes to a place that has meant so much to me." Epps continues.
Epps and the Yeomen return to Bailey tomorrow, Saturday, October 24, when they take on Ohio Wesleyan for their No One Fights Alone Game. Kickoff is scheduled for 12 p.m.
