Hilton Head, South Carolina — The No. 37-nationally ranked Oberlin College men's tennis team took care of business defeating Union College 6-3 on Tuesday of its spring trip.
The Yeomen took a 2-1 lead after doubles as they were victorious in the first and third flights.
Stephen Gruppuso and
Camron Cohen defeated Union's top doubles pairing by a final of 8-0, with
Zachary Vaughn and
Matthew Gittings wining the third flight, 8-3.
In singles the Yeomen won all but two flights. Gruppuso coasted to a 6-2, 6-4 victory in the top flight, while Vaughn took care of Union's Austin Egna, 6-4, 6-0. Cohen picked up match point over the Dutchmen's third singles player, 6-1, 6-3.
After the match was decided, rookie
Sam Topper added to the team's lead with a 7-6 (7-3), 6-3, victory over Union's Zach Kaplan for the Yeomen's final point.
The Yeomen will be back in action on Wednesday as they added a spring break match against the University of St. Thomas starting at 1 p.m.
