Oberlin, Ohio – The Oberlin College men's tennis team cruised to a 9-0 victory over the visiting Allegheny College Gators to celebrate senior day at the Don Hunsinger Courts.
The Yeomen honored seniors
Ian Paik,
Abraham Davis,
Jeremy Lichtmacher,
Paul Farah and
Billy Lennon in a combined celebration with the women's program before the start of the match.
The Yeomen dropped just two total games across all three doubles matches. A switch in the line-up placed rookie
Stephen Gruppuso in the top position with Lichtmacher and they went on to blank Jai Redkar and Cooper Miller, 8-0.
Paik and Michael Drougus teamed up at No. 2 and were 8-1 victors over Niall Kneerim and Colton JohnsonTaylor at No. 2, while Davis and
Levi Kimmel won by the same count in the third flight.
Ranked 14
th in the region, Paik had no trouble securing the 50
th singles victory of his career, as he was 6-0, 6-3 winner over Redkar at No. 1.
Drougas cruised by JohnsonTaylor, 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2, while Davis followed with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Mike Siegel at No. 3.
Manickam Manickam notched his 10
th singles win of the year with a 6-2, 6-1 triumph over Miller.
The lone match to go more than two sets was the No. 5 battle between Farah and Kneerim. The Yeomen senior dropped the first 6-4, but battled to win the second 6-0 before taking the super-breaker 10-5.
Litchtmacher made his way into the lineup at No. 6 and took down Derek Sawer, 6-1, 6-0.
Oberlin concludes the regular season at 14-9 overall and 2-1 in the NCAC East.
The Yeomen will now shift their focus to next weekend's NCAC Tournament.
