Meadville, PA – The Oberlin College men's tennis team concluded the regular season with a 6-3 road win at Allegheny College on Saturday afternoon.
The Yeomen, ranked 39
th in the country, will enter next weekend's NCAC Tournament with record of 14-7 overall and 3-1 in the NCAC East.
"This was a good way to end our regular season," Head Coach
Eric Ishida said. "It was true team effort today and nice way to head into the tournament."
Oberlin took a 2-1 lead into singles after winning at No. 2 and No. 3. doubles. In the second position
Michael Drougas and
Ian Paik had no trouble with Tyler Triolo and Zach Anderson, winning 8-2. The Yeomen's
Jeremy Lichtmacher and
Robert Gittings also took down Samarth Gopal and Andreas Landgrebe by an 8-3 count.
The Yeomen went on to take four of the six singles battles, winning at flights two through four and at No. 6.
In the second position Drougas was a three-set winner over Jai Redkar, dropping the first 6-2 before bouncing back with victories of 6-3 and 6-2 in the second and third sets. The win moved him to 15-8 on the year and was the 35
th singles win of the sophomore's career.
At No. 3 senior
Callan Louis outlasted Triolo 7-6 (7-4) in the first before Triolo was forced to retire, handing Louis the win.
Abraham Davis, who partnered with Louis at No. 1 doubles and lost 8-4, got his revenge at No 4 singles. He took down Gopal by identical 6-1 counts to earn the straight-set victory.
At No. 6
Billy Lennon notched his 12
th victory of the season and sixth in the No. 6 position as be blanked Colton Johnson Taylor 6-0, 6-0.
Ian Paik lost in the top flight to Thomas Manning, 6-0, 6-3, while Gittings fell in three sets to Landgrebe at No. 5. Gittings won the first 6-0, but then was upended 7-6 (7-3) and 10-3.
Oberlin will now wait to find out its seed for the upcoming NCAC Tournament that will get underway on Friday at Denison University.
