ResultsCleveland, Ohio – The Oberlin College men's tennis capped off their busy Saturday, turning in a competitive showing against No. 14 Case Western Reserve, but in the end it wasn't enough as the high-powered Spartans topped the Yeomen 7-2.
The loss marks the first of the spring for the Yeomen as they fell back to 5-2 in dual matches this season. Earlier in the day, Oberlin blanked Franciscan 9-0.
Senior
Callan Louis was involved in both of Oberlin's victories on the night. He and
Abraham Davis were 8-4 winners at No. 2 doubles over Adam Collins and Freedy Daum.
Louis later won the team's lone singles match as be took down Robert Stroup at No. 3, 6-1, 2-6, 10-6.
Against the ninth-ranked pairing in the country,
Ian Paik and
Jeremy Lichtmacher held their own in the top flight, falling 8-5 to CJ Krimbill and Louis Stuerke.
The Spartans had a 2-1 lead going into singles as
Robert Gittings and
Michael Drougas were upended by James Fojtasek and Phil Gruber, 8-4.
Krimball, who ranks 26
th the nation currently and ended 2015 at No. 3, took on Paik in the top singles match and defeated him 6-1, 6-2.
At No. 2, Drougas put up a strong fight against Fojtasek, but the Yeomen sophomore was outlasted 7-5, 6-4.
Dacvis was defeated 6-2, 6-1 by Stuerke at No. 4 and Kevin Dong got the best of
Manickam Manickam 6-2, 7-5 at No. 5.
In the final singles match, Joshua Dughi topped Gittings by identical 6-2 scorelines.
The Yeomen will be right back at it tomorrow morning, hosting No, 40 Pacific (Ore.) at 11 a.m.
