Results Delaware, Ohio – A portion of the Oberlin College track and field squad traveled to the Ron Althoff Invitational hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University in hopes of punching a ticket to the 2015 NCAA Championships.
Junior
Geno Arthur earned a commanding win in the men's 5,000-meters with a record-setting run. Arthur shattered the program record with a blistering time of 14:36.09 and beat the field by nearly 45 seconds.The mark currently puts him 23rd in the nation and close to the cutline for a national berth.
Senior
Emma Lehmann registered a dominant victory of her own in the women's half of the 5,000-meters. Lehmann broke the tape at 17:56.48 for first, but it is still well outside the nation's top 50.
Senior
Carey Lyons also bested the field in the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase by nearly one minute, finishing in 10:57.59. She is currently 12th in the country with her 10:49.39 that she posted at the Bison Indoor Classic on April 11.
Junior
Joshua Urso also registered a first-place finish in the difficult 800-meter run. Urso held off the field and crossed the line at 1:53.62 to best the competition.
First-year
Monique Newton had another impressive outing with two top-three finishes. In the women's discus, Newton let loose a toss of 140-05 (42.81m) to finish second behind Baldwin Wallace's Kim Gallavan.
It was Newton who reigned supreme in the shot put finishing with a mark of 45-08.50 (13.93m), beating her own school record of 45-07 (13.89m). Her 45-08.50 toss will move her up in the national scene as she attempts to double up on NCAA qualifications.
First-year
Lilah Drafts-Johnson was out done by North Coast Athletic Conference foe Aedin Brennan of Denison in the grueling 400-meter hurdles, placing second with a time of 1:03.13 and just four one hundreths off her her school-record time.
Dan Bolotsky also traveled to Delaware and finished ninth in the men's hammer throw with a heave of 158-09 (48.39m).
Track and field concludes the regular season at the Gregory Invtiational.
