Men’s Tennis Finish 3-0 in Michigan

Match 1: OC v Hope | Match 2: OC v Alma | Match 3: OC v Calvin
 
Holland, Mich. – Oberlin College men's tennis, along with Ohio Wesleyan University  and Wabash College were welcomed by host Hope College for the MIAA-NCAC Challenge on Friday and Saturday.
 
Following their 7-2 triumph over Calvin College, the Yeomen completed an undefeated weekend after dropping Hope College and Alma College 9-0 Friday.

"It was a full team effort and we played very disciplned and structured," said head coach Eric Ishida.
 
Against the Flying Dutchmen, Oberlin swept doubles with wins from Callan Louis and Soren Zeliger, 8-4, Ian Paik and Michael Drougas, 8-1 and Manickam Manickam and Jeremy Lichtmacher, 8-5.
 
Paik went on to seal a victory in the No. 1 singles bout, 6-2, 6-2, while Drougas bested his counterpart in straight sets, 6-3, 6-0.
 
The No. 3 match went to Louis, 3-6, 6-3, 10-6, while Manickam earned a two-set, 6-4, 6-0 victory at No. 4. The Yeomen closed out the blanking of the Flying Dutchmen with wins from Billy Lennon, 6-2, 6-1 and Lichtmacher, 6-2, 7-5 at No. 6.
 
In the later match with the Alma Scots, again it was Louis and Zeliger with a win at No. 1 doubles, 8-4, followed by a triumph from Paik and Drougas at No. 2, 8-3.
 
Manickam and Lichtmacher locked up the doubles sweep with a win at No. 3, 8-2.
 
Paik, Drougas and Louis rolled through their opponents in the first three singles matches. Paik won, 6-2, 6-4, Drougas knocked through his Alma counterpart, 6-4, 7-5, while Louis served up a blanking in the No. 3 matchup 6-0, 6-0.
 
In the No. 4 flight, Manickam swung his way to a 7-5, 6-2 victory, while Lennon and Lichtmacher sealed the shutout win, 6-0, 6-3 and 6-2, 6-0 in the No. 5 and No. 6 matches respectively.
 
On Saturday, the Calvin College Knights were the only object standing in the way of the Yeomen's undefeated weekend.
 
For the third consecutive time, Louis and Zeliger triumphed in the No. 1 doubles matchup, 8-5. Paik and Drougas followed suit with an 8-4 win at No.2 and Davis and Lennon secured the doubles sweep, dominating, 8-1, at No. 3.
 
Against the Knights, Louis got the nod from Ishida and dealt his opponent a 6-4, 7-5 loss in the No. 1 single bout.
 
Davis occupied the No. 2 slot and went on to win , 6-3, 6-1, while Lennon, playing in the No. 3 spot triumphed, 6-1, 6-0.
 
Michigan native, Paul Farah along with junior Brandon McKenna surrendered the only Oberlin losses of the weekend at No. 4 and No. 5, 3-6, 5-6 and 6-2, 1-6, 1-6 respectively.
 
Rob Gittings played his lone match of the weekend in the No. 6 flight against the Knight and earned the victory 7-5, 6-4.

"Our performance this weekend gave us confidence moving towards the end of the season," said Ishida.
 
The Yeomen will take little time off after their three matches in Michigan as they return to action with the Kenyon College Lords, Sunday, April 12. Action between the Lords and Yeomen is slated for noon from Gambier, Ohio.
