Rock Hill, S.C. – Oberlin College track and field opened the 2015 outdoor schedule in the sunshine of South Carolina at the 2015 Winthrop Invitational.
Oberlin opened the final leg of the 2014-15 season against D-1 competition down south.
Thrower
Conor Narovec highlighted the Yeomen's performance with a 7
th place finish in the hammer throw. Narovec finished with a mark of 115-02 (47.29m).
Sophomore
E.J. Douglas earned a third place finish in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:56.52.
The Yeomen showed well in the 5,000-meters with three top-25 finishes.
Robert Moreton led the trio with a time of 15:38.34 followed by
Gavin Ratcliffe's 16:02.75.
Yorito Nakata finished 21
st overall, completing the trek in 16:16.77.
Senior
Sarah Jane Kerwin bested multiple Division-I opponents in the women's 5,000 meters. Kerwin finished the grueling trek in 17:36.00. First-year
Peyton Boughton had a solid top-25 performance with a mark of 19:12.28.
In the discuss, rookie
Ana Richardson set a new school record with a toss of 41.50m to place third overall. She bested
Tiffany Henry's mark of 39.19m that she set last season. Fellow First-year
Monique Newton, who qualified to the NCAA indoor championships, had a good start to the outdoor season with a sixth-place finish in the women's shot put. Newton earned her top-ten finish with a toss of 42-01.75 (12.82m).
Senior sprinter
Sam Black, finished 24
th in the men's 100-meter dash with a time of 11.29. Black went on to finish 47
th in the 400 meters, crossing the finish line in 23.15.
Classmate,
Jerry Choi registered a 13
th place finish in the tough 400-meter hurdles. Choi crossed the finish line in 57.71.
In the men's developmental 1,500-meter run,
Owen Mittenthal clocked a time of 4:22.33, good enough for 12
th overall.
First-year
James Tanford finished first in his flight of the men's long jump with a mark of 19-10.25 (6.05m). His mark left him in 23
rd overall.
Junior Nate Danko had a stellar Saturday with a fourth place finish in the men's pole vault. Danko hit a height of 4.35m on his first attempt, but missed 4.50 meters on his final attempts of the day.
Oberlin track and field returns to action on April 4, when they host the Bob Kahn Invitational.
