Geno Arthur broke the men's indoor 5,000-meter record at the David Hemery Valentine Invite hosted by Boston University on Saturday night.
Arthur clocked a time of 14:23.76, nearly a minute faster than the previous record set back in 2010 (15:16.90) by Ben Schild.
The Camarillo, California native finished seventh overall against a field of 68 competitors from all NCAA Divisions as well as other high-caliber distance runners.
In the 5k, Arthur was the highest finisher among all the Division-III athletes in the field.
Because of the curve of the tracks surface Arthur's time converts to 14:33.01, which currently stands as the fifth fastest mark in the country.

Men's ResultsWesterville, Ohio – After a portion of Oberlin track and field squad competed at Baldwin Wallace yesterday, another segment of the slue of Yeomen and Yeowomen took on Ohio's best at the 2015 Indoor All-Ohio Championships hosted by Otterbein University.
The Yeowomen had a quality outing in Westerville finishing 10
th in the team standings with 24 points. The men's squad landed in 18
th and struggled with a slim number of athletes in attendance.
First-year
Monique Newton placed second in the women's shot put with a mark of 44-00 (13.41m). Classmate
Ana Richardson was 10th in the shot put with a toss of 38-04 (11.68m), missing the finals by one spot. However, in the weight throw Richardson found redemption with a fifth-place performance with a heave of 48-05.25.
First-year
Lilah Drafts-Johnson narrowly missed the finals in the women's triple jump. Drafts-Johnson finished with a mark of 33-06.50 (10.22m) to finish 10
th in her first All-Ohio Championship appearance. Later in the women's 400-meter dash, she posted a time of 1:01.31 to land in eighth place.
Senior sprinter
Margaret Miller qualified for the women's 60-meter dash in the last slot with a time of 8.16. Miller picked up on one-hundredth of a second in the final heat (8.17), but gained two places, finishing in sixth. She also competed in the women's 200-meter dash, but finished just out of scoring position in ninth.
Both Miller and Drafts-Johnson teamed up with
Nuria Alishio-Caballero and
Ashley Parish to run in the 4x200 meter relay. The quartet of Yeowomen finished eighth overall with a pace of 1:48.96.
Respectively, juniors
Sarel Loewus and
Robert Moreton tabbed eighth place finishes in the women's and men's 1-mile race. Loewus crossed the line in a time of 5:26.26, while Moreton stopped the clock at 4:30.09.
First-year
Caracol Haley ran well in the women's 800 with a time of 2:22.65, finishing in fifth overall.
Haley joined with Miller, Drafts-Johnson and Parish to run the third leg of the women's 4x400. The Oberlin foursome clocked a time of 4:12.59, enough for seventh.
On the men's side, quartet of Yeomen sprinter:
Jerry Choi,
James Tanford,
Sam Black and
Ian Smith claimed eighth in the 4x200. The group finished with a mark of 1:36.76.
The Oberlin College track and field squad is scheduled to compete at the Greater Cleveland Championships this coming Friday, Febrauary 20. The Greater Cleveland Championships will be hosted by Baldwin Wallace University in Berea, Ohio.
