ResultsOberlin, Ohio – Oberlin College track and field had a stellar showing to welcome in 2015 as they hosted Thiel and Westminster College for the Dan Kinsey Invitational from inside the Heisman Field House.
Oberlin throwers
Monique Newton and
Ana Richardson had another strong outing, in both the weight throw and shot put. Against a slim field of competitors, Richardson finished first with a mark of 14.30 meters in the weight throw while Newton had a toss of 13.01 meters for second.
In the shot put, it was Newton reigning supreme with a throw of 13.18 meters. Richardson finished second with a mark of 11.72 meters.
Sprinters
Margaret Miller and
Ashley Parish split first-place performances in the 60-meter and 200-meter dash. It was Miller taking first in the 60-meter dash with a time of 8.26 followed by Parish's 8.35. In the 200-meter dash, Parish clocked a time of 28.31, while Miller stopped the clock at 28.45 for second.
The duo joined up with seniors
Julia Skrovan and
Katherine Skayhan for the 4x200 meter relay. The quartet clocked a time of 1:55.71 to best the field by 0:06.
In the women's 4x400 meter relay, Miller and Skayhan teamed up with fellow senior
Nora Ryan and first-year
Caracol Haley. The team of Yeowomen dominated their competition, clocking a time of 4:28.29, which was over 31-seconds better than the Westminster A squad.
Ryan also earned a first-place finish in the women's 500-meter dash with a time of 1:27.19.
On the distance side, junior
Sarel Loewus bested the field with a time of 5:38.30, while Haley claimed third by clocking a time of 5:45.60.
The Oberlin men's first performance of the New Year was just as impressive with four first place finishes.
In a thrilling mile run, distance man E.J. Douglas edged out Thiel's Steve Morgan by .14 hundredths of a second to claim a first place finish with a time 4:42.81. Oberlin's Gavin Ratcliffe clocked a sub-5:00 time, stopping the clock at 4:55.25, finishing fourth overall.
Junior Joshua Urso dominated the men's 1,000-meter run with a blistering time of 2:38.20.
Evan Finch earned a first-place finish in the men's high jump with a leap of 1.83 meters.
In the men's pole vault, Nate Danko finished with a mark of 4.10 meters.
Senior Conor Narovec was the only male thrower to represent the Yeomen in the shot put and weight throw. Narovec notched a heave of 13.50 meters to finish second in the weight throw. The Frazeysburg, Ohio native also finished fourth in the shot put with a mark of 12.00 meters.
Oberlin track and field returns to action in a week's time when they travel to the College of Wooster. Action is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
