Terrier Classic ResultsBoston, Mass. – Against some of the nation's best male distance runners, junior
Geno Arthur broke the all-time Oberlin College men's 3k record with a time of 8:23.75 at Boston University's John Thomas Terrier Classic.
Arthur shattered the previous program record (8:41.08) set by Stephen Williams at the 2011 North Coast Athletic Confernce Championships.
Arthur, who earned All-American honors in the fall, finished 32
nd overall in Boston against a field of 104 competitors. Arthur's time is the third fastest time in the NCAA this season.
Scots Invitational ResultsWooster, Ohio – The rest of the Oberlin College track and field team performed well against a slate of conference opponents at the 2015 Scots Invitational hosted by the College of Wooster.
A collection of solid performances on the track and in the field events lifted the Yeowomen to a first-place finish against NCAC opponents; Wooster, Wittenberg, Denison and Kenyon with 139 team points. The Yeomen finished close behind the Wittenberg Tigers with 97.
The Oberlin distance runners had a strong outing in Wooster with two first-place finishes. First-year
Caracol Haley and senior
Nora Ryan finished one-two in the women's 800-meter run. Haley checked in at 2:23.28, while Ryan crossed the finish line in 2:27.34. Senior
Carey Lyons blew away the field in the 3,000 with a time of 10:23.14, winning the race by 54 seconds.
On the men's side, senior
Robert Moreton finished second in the men's 1-mile race, completing the trek in 4:36.28.
In the women's 5,000-meters, first-year
Peyton Boughton had an impressive performance, checking-in with a second place finish in time of 18:55.60.
Senior Yeoman
Jerry Choi claimed two second-place finishes in the men's 200 and 400-meter dash. Choi nearly edged out Wittenberg's Victor Banjo finishing with a time of 23.61 in the 200. In the 400-meter dash, Choi stopped the clock at 52.08.
Senior sprinter
Margaret Miller registered a second and third place finish for the Yeowomen in Wooster. In the 60-meter dash, Miller clocked a time of 8.18. In the 200-meters, she was third against a field of 16 competitors with a time of 27.51.
In the 60 and 200-meter dash,
Sam Black registered a fourth and seventh-place finish for the Yeomen with times of 7.36 and 24.4, respectively.
In the circle, throwers
Ana Richardson and
Monique Newton continue to show promise as first-years. Respectively, the duo won the weight throw and the shot put. In the weight throw, Richardson and sophomore
Caitlyn Grubb finished first and second with marks of 46-00 (14.02m) and 44-07.5 (13.60m). Newton won the shot put with a toss of 40-09.5 (12.43m), while Richardson registered a third place finish with a mark of 36-10.25 (11.23m).
Evan Finch turned in another first-place performance for the Yeomen in the high jump. The senior leaped to a height of 6-02.
Pole-vaulters
Nathan Danko and
Ave Spencer both took the top spot. Danko vaulted his way to a mark of 13-00.25 (3.97m), while Spencer finished with a height of 10-06 (3.20m).
First-year
Lilah Drafts-Johnson finished second in the triple jump with a mark of 33-01.75 (10.10m).
Oberlin College track and field will return to the track when they host the Crimson and Gold Invitational on Friday, February 6. Action from inside the Heisman Field House is set for 5:30 p.m.
