Box Score Erie, PA - In a match that pitted two 2013 NCAA Tournament participants up against one another, it was the home-standing Lions of Penn State-Behrend who were able to sneak past the Oberlin College Yeomen, 1-0, on Saturday afternoon.
The battle was nearly extended into extra time, but a long touch from Jimmy Belack put Nick Stewart in a one-on-one against Yeomen Keeper
Oidie Kuijpers and he won the battle, netting the game's only tally in the 88th minute.
After scoring four goals in its season opener a week ago against Mount Union, the Yeomen struggled to find their rhythm in the final third as they triggered just two shots in the match.
Enzo Cabili was credited with Oberlin's lone shot on goal.
The Lions fired off 14 shots in the match, but Kuijpers kept them off the board until the closing moments by making five saves.
Behrend had a 6-5 edge in corners and committed 13 fouls to Oberlin's 12. However, the game was very physical on both sides as the Yeomen were dealt five yellow cards while the Lions earned two cautions of their own.
Oberlin returns to action next Saturday when it travels west to Indiana to take on former NCAC member Earlham. The first touch is set for 2 p.m.
