Box Score Oberlin, Ohio – Oberlin men's soccer struggled to find the back of the net against Grove City College as the Yeomen suffered a 3-0 loss.
A Wolverine goal and an Oberlin own goal put the Yeomen in a 2-0 hole heading into the half. Playing from behind, the Yeomen increased the offensive pressure in the second half.
Trailing 2-0, sophomore
Nick Wertman created a solid opportunity in the 68th minute after beating a Wolverine defender in the box. Wertman took aim but his shot flew wide and hit the outside of the left post.
The Yeomen were gifted a free kick in the 75th minute after a Grove City foul just outside the penalty area.
Louis Naiman met the set piece with a header in the box but his attempt hit the crossbar and a Wolverine defender turned away his rebound opportunity.
Grove City added their final goal of the contest in the 77th minute to put the contest out of reach.
Senior
Slade Gottlieb led the Yeomen offensively with four shots, two on goal. The trio of Wertman,
John Ingham and
Timothy Williams tallied three shots each.
The loss moves the Yeomen back to .500 at 2-2 overall. Oberlin soccer will return to the pitch on Saturday, September 20, as they host Otterbein University at 4 p.m.
