ResultsGambier, Ohio – Playing on the campus of Kenyon College, the Oberlin College men's tennis team fell to Allegheny College 5-0 in the opening round of the North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament on Friday.
The Gators, who rank 16th in the ITA Central Region, won all three doubles matches and then completed the victory by winning at No. 1 and No. 3 singles.
Ranked 11th in the region, Allegheny's all-time wins leader Patrick Cole defeated Oberlin rookie
Ian Paik 6-1, 6-0 in the top flight to provide the match-clinching point.
At No. 3 singles Thomas Manning also got the best of
Soren Zeliger 6-1, 6-2.
At No. 2 singles
Callan Louis won the first set over Tyler Triolo 6-3 and had a 3-2 lead in the second when the match was stopped.
Oberlin was unable to keep pace in the top two doubles flights, falling 8-2 and 8-3. However, the Yeomen nearly pulled off the win at No. 3 as
Abraham Davis and
Charlie Marks took Alexander Hurtuk and Sam Stephenson to the brink before coming up on the wrong end of an 8-6 decision.
The Yeomen will now play Ohio Wesleyan tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. in the consolation semifinals.
