Box ScorePittsburgh, PA – The upstart Oberlin College men's tennis team was unable to keep pace with the high-powered Tartans of Carnegie Mellon University, falling 9-0 on Saturday afternoon.
In doubles play the Yeomen pushed CMU to the brink, but ultimately dropped all three points. The No. 2 pairing of
Michael Drougas and
Ian Paik had the lead, but CMU charged late to win 9-7.
Soren Zeliger and
Callan Louis fell 8-4 in the top flight, while
Billy Lennon and
Abraham Davis were dispatched 8-3.
Paik played at No. 1 singles but fell to Abhishek Alla 6-1, 6-4. Alla ended the 2013-14 season ranked eighth in the country.
Drougas, dropped a closely contested match against the nation's 42nd ranked player from a season ago as William Duncan got by the Yeomen newcomer 6-4, 7-6 (3).
The Yeomen's match that was scheduled earlier in the day at Franciscan was canceled.
Oberlin will conclude its fall season next Saturday against Walsh University.
