Box Score
Oberlin, Ohio – The Oberlin College men's soccer team secured a 2-2 draw against Penn State-Behrend on Friday night at Fred Shults Field.
In a physical contest that featured 25 fouls and three yellow cards, the Yeomen kept their composure throughout and had the Lions on their heels for most of the second half.
Early in the match, Oberlin was facing its first deficit of the season as a foul deep in in its own defensive third setup Eric Vunovic for a free kick from just outside the 18-yard box that he sent into the lower right corner of the goal.
It would remain a 1-0 Lions' lead at the half, but Oberlin would eventually square the match in the 60th minute when sophomore John Ingham would net his second tally of the season on a free-kick finish from 25 yards out.
Just over 10 minutes later, Vunovic would strike again on a penalty kick after being taken down from behind on a breakaway. However, the Lions' lead was very short-lived.
In the 72-minute the Yeomen executed a beautiful setpiece as Ingham's service from the near right side towards the back post was finished off by a streaking Joe Graybeal on a leaping-acrobatic header. It was his second goal of the season and fifth of his career.
From there both teams would bunker in defensively as neither unit had any promising scoring threats for the remainder of regulation and on into overtime.
The Yeomen finished with a 12-9 edge in shots, including a 6-4 advantage in shots on goal. Oberlin also earned five corners compared to the Lions' three. With the result both teams now own 2-0-1 records.
Senior Brandt Rentel made his first appearance of the season in goal and played all 110 minutes, finishing with four saves.
The Yeomen will rest tomorrow before returning to the pitch on Sunday afternoon at Heidelberg University. The opening touch is set for 2 p.m.
