Box Score
Oberlin, Ohio – The Oberlin College men's soccer team came out strong and never looked back as they upended the visiting Bluffton University Beavers, 7-0, on a chilly night at Fred Shults Field.
Both teams exchanged blows for the first 20 minutes, but then the Yeomen turned up the heat, scoring four goals before halftime.
The first came when sophomore
John Ingham scored his fifth goal of the season. Senior
Matt Tunzi picked up his second assist on the season by providing a beautifully weighted ball down the right flank for Ingham, who went around the Beavers' goalkeeper and finished into the empty net.
Eight minutes later senior
Joe Graybeal would score his third goal of the season, blasting home a bending free kick from
Ari Schwartz.
Less than two minutes later Graybeal would score his second goal of the game, finishing into an empty net as freshman
Sam Weiss collected his second assist of the season by picking up the ball off a deflected shot and finding Graybeal open in the middle of the box.
For Graybeal this marks his first time at Oberlin with a multi-goal game.
Junior
Enzo Cabili would add the fourth goal of the half on a penalty kick, the first goal of his collegiate career.
In the second half, the Yeomen kept the tempo up and sophomore
Dean Schapow scored his first goal of the season off a free kick from Ingham and redirect pass from freshman
Nick Wertman.
Later in the half, Wertman scored the first goal of his college career, to push the Yeomen cushion to 6-0. Tunzi got his second assist of the game on the goal.
Ingham scored his second goal of the game during the second half to push the lead to seven for the Yeomen. The tally was his sixth of the season, giving him the team lead.
The last time the Yeomen scored seven goals in a game was in 2008 against Earlham College.
The Yeomen finished with 19 shots, 10 of them on goal. Junior goalkeeper
Oidie Kuijpers made four saves and picked up the win and shutout in goal.
The Yeomen will look to stay hot, having won three in a row, as they travel to Otterbein University for a 4 p.m. contest on Wednesday, September 25.
