Cleveland, Ohio – The Oberlin College soccer team pushed their unbeaten streak to eight games Tuesday night with a 2-0 victory on the road at Case Western Reserve University. The Yeomen are now 9-1-2.
The win marks the best start to a season for a Yeomen soccer team since 1988, the winningest season in school history, when the team went 13-3-1.
Oberlin broke into the scoring column early when sophomore and NCAC player of the week
John Ingham scored his 10th goal of the season, a header on a cross from classmate
Louis Naiman.
Seven minutes later the Yeomen added their insurance goal as senior
Joe Graybeal scored on a pass from classmate
Ari Schwartz. This was Graybeal's fifth goal of the season for the Yeomen and Schwartz's second assist.
The Yeomen were then able to bunker down defensively and get the hard earned win on the road to end their non-conference schedule for the year.
The Spartans outshot the Yeomen, 13-7, and forced senior goalkeeper
Brandt Rentel to make five saves to earn the clean sheet, his fifth of the season.
Two yellow card cautions were issued during the match, with one going to
Nick Wertman in the 78
th minute.
The Yeomen will be in action this weekend as Hiram College comes to town for a 7 p.m. opening kick on Saturday, October 12.
