Yeomen Tennis Splits a Pair of Matches

Results vs. CMU l Results vs. Franciscan

Oberlin, Ohio - The Oberlin College Men's tennis team lost the first match of their doubleheader Saturday to Carnegie Mellon University by the score of 9-0, but regrouped to defeat Franciscan University 8-0.

The Yeomen displayed their dominance early on against the Barons, winning all three doubles matches fairly easily. In fact, Franciscan took just three points across the three matches. Abraham Davis and Paul Farah blanked their counterparts 8-0 at the No. 3 position.

In singles action Callan Louis dispatched Paul Jarzynka 6-3, 6-2 in the top spot. Rookie Ian Paik followed at No. 2 but needed a second-set tiebreak to get past Leonel Lacayo 6-2, 7-6, winning the breaker 7-5.

At No. 3 Soren Zeliger was forced to go to a tiebreak in his first set but ultimately prevailed 7-6 (6-1) before taking the second set 6-2 over Zack Quiza.

Abraham Davis and Paul Farah were unchallenged in picking up victories at positions four and five, respectively. The No. 6 singles match was left unfinished.

Against the Tartans in doubles play, all three of the matches were knotted up for a while until Carnegie Mellon pulled ahead for good.  At first doubles, Zeliger and Louis lost by the score of 8-5.  While in second and third doubles, Paik and Jeremy Lichtmacher, and Davis and Farah, respectively, each lost their matches by the scores of 8-4.

In singles play, Paik fought a tough and grueling match but was eventually ousted by Kiril Kirkov, 6-3,6-3. Additionally, Davis also lost a difficult match in an eight-set tiebreak after the match had already been decided by the score of 8-5.

The Yeomen have now concluded their fall season and will return to action this spring.
