Oberlin, Ohio – The Oberlin College men's soccer team battled the visiting Baldwin Wallace University Yellow Jackets toe-to-toe for 90 minutes, but in the end the Yeomen were on the short-end of a 4-2 result.
The game was tightly contested throughout as Oberlin had a slight 20-18 edge in shots and a 7-5 margin in corners. Both teams had 10 shots on goal, but BW made the most of their chances.
The Yellow Jackets got on the board first in the 12
th minute, but rookie
Slade Gottlieb would even the score 10 minutes later as he sent in a laser shot from 30 yards out on a set piece for his first collegiate goal.
A couple of defensive miscues by the Yeomen resulted in the Yellow Jackets scoring twice more before half to lead 3-1 at the break.
BW would extend its cushion out to three, netting their fourth and final score shortly into the second half. However, Oberlin wouldn't go down without a fight as
Josh Wilkerson headed in his first-career goal off a corner kick service from
Ari Schwartz just a minute later.
The Yeomen had some chances to shrink its deficit as the half wore on, but luck was not on their side as
Santiago Gonzalez had his trigger hit off the post, while
Chris Campbell and
Enzo Cabili saw shots fly high and wide.
Brandt Rentel made six saves in goal, while BW keeper Ryan Hulings turned away eight Yeomen shots.
Oberlin returns to action on Friday night when it plays host to Waynesburg at 7:30 p.m.
