Yeomen and Muskies End in a Scoreless Tie

Box Score

New Concord, Ohio – The Oberlin College men's soccer team battled the Muskingum Muskies to a double overtime 0-0 tie on Wednesday night in New Concord.

Along with taking on a strong Muskingum team, the Yeomen also had to fight through the weather elements that made the field extremely slick.

It was the first draw of the season for the Yeomen who wrapped up non-conference play with a record of 5-2-1 and sit at 6-2-1 overall after beating Wabash in their NCAC opener last Saturday.

Oberlin controlled the run of play throughout the game, but unfortunately could not find a way to score their 18th goal of the season to get by the Muskies.

The Yeomen out-shot their counterparts 23-11 and triggered 10 corner kicks compared to Muskingum's two. However, just five of the Yeomen shots were on frame.

Oberlin had 10 different players make a shot attempt in the game as they played 21 different players in all. Slade Gottlieb led OC with four shots, while Matt Capozzi had two of his three shots on goal.

Brandt Rentel played all 110 minutes in goal and made four saves.

The Yeomen return home to host Wittenberg on Saturday night at 7 p.m. The match will be the first of three straight for Oberlin on its home pitch.
