Crawfordsville, IN – The Oberlin College men' s soccer team gutted out a 3-2 overtime victory, upending Wabash College on the road to open up NCAC play on Saturday.
It was
Matt Capozzi who sent the Yeomen home as winners as he netted the game-winner 4:29 into overtime with an assist coming from
Ed Vitoria.
Oberlin controlled the run of play throughout the game, evident by a 20-9 edge in shots, which included a 10-5 margin in shots on goal.
An early score by the Little Giants just minutes into game was eventually answered by Vitoria just before the end of the first half.
Joe Graybeal was credited with the assist on the play.
However, Wabash would quickly regain the lead shortly after intermission until rookie
John Ingham would add the equalizer with his first-career goal in the 68
th minute.
Dylan Tencic set him up on the play.
The two teams would then fight for possession while playing out the final 22 minutes of regulation.
Slade Gottlieb and
Andrew Wise both put balls on frame during the stretch, but each was saved by the Wabash keeper.
With the win, Oberlin earned three critical points in the conference standings and ran its record to 6-2 overall.
The Yeomen had a slight 4-2 edge in corners and got whistled 15 times for fouls, compared to 12 for Wabash.
Oberlin will play its final non-conference game of the season on September 26 at Muskingum. The opening-touch is set for 7 p.m.
