Box Score

Meadville, Ohio – It wasn't easy by any means, but the Oberlin College men's soccer team found a way to defeat the Gators of Allegheny, 1-0, on Wednesday night at Frank B. Fuher Field.

After 70 minutes of action the game remained scoreless, but then after taking a pass from John Ingham, Matt Capozzi was able to escape free from the Gators' defense en route to scoring his second goal of the season with just 19 minutes left to play in the game.

The Gators continued to put pressure on the Oberlin defense in effort to add the equalizer, but the Yeomen backline stood strong on this night. With just under four minutes left in the game, a key play came courtesy of Aki Gormezano as he was able to knock away a Chris Brennan shot attempt that was heading for the goal and with Yeomen keeper Brant Rentel not in a position to make the save.

However, Rentel did do his part in the victory, finishing with five saves in the contest to run his season total to 66 on the year.

Allegheny out-shot Oberlin 14-10, but the Yeomen had a 6-5 edge in shots on goal. The Gators triggered one more corner kick than Oberlin at a 6-5 count.

With the win Oberlin was able to snap a five-game losing skid while improving its record to 8-7-1 and 3-5-0 in the NCAC. It was the Yeomen's sixth straight game that was decided by just one goal with this one finally going in their favor.

Oberlin will honor its senior class prior to its season finale at home on Saturday night against the College of Wooster. The opening touch is set for 7 p.m.
