Box Score
Oberlin, Ohio – Despite controlling the tempo throughout, the Oberlin College men's soccer team found themselves on the wrong end of a 1-0 decision against Centre College on Saturday night at Fred Shults Field.
The Yeomen dictated the pace and controlled possession throughout, but just couldn't find the back of the net for the second straight game. Oberlin finished with a 14-5 advantage in shots – including a 6-3 edge in shots on frame. OC also attempted 10 corners compared to just five for the victors.
The lone goal of the game came at the 27:54 mark as Ben Van Neal finished off a set piece from Ryan Harvey.
The Yeomen had multiple chances to score, but none better than on a breakaway in the 74th minute that left
Oliver Miller-Farrell one-on-one against the keeper. However, his rifle shot hit square off the crossbar of the goal and bounced out.
The Yeomen continued to fight all the way down to the end as they had three corner kick attempts in the final minute, but could not find a way to put one in.
Brandt Rentel played all 90 minutes in goal and made two saves. Miller-Farrell led the Yeomen with five shots, while
Justin Griffiths was second in triggers with three.
Oberlin returns to action on Tuesday night when it makes the short trek over to Baldwin-Wallace College.
