NCAC Swimming and Diving Day Two

- The Yeoswimmers and Divers continued to pour on phenomenal performances this evening at the North Coast Athletic Conference Championships. The men and women are both sitting in sixth place after day two.

“We get stronger as we move through the meet and it showed today,” said Head Coach Mark Fino. “We excellent swims across the board today. That is a great sign going into day three tomorrow.”

The Yeowomen were lead by junior Jane McIntyre. She swam to a sixth place finish in the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:36.89. She was just off the NCAA “B” cut time in the event. Seniors Kelsey Sherman and Jenny Meltz also contributed in the 400-yard im. Meltz dropped nearly nine seconds from her preliminary swim taking thirteenth place with a time of 4:46.27. Sherman followed up in fourteenth place (4:53.66).

Junior Kate Melanson took fifteenth place in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:00.23.

The team also received a major contribution from the first-year swimmers. Mary Okoth and Anna Saltzman posted personal best times in the B-Final of the 200-yard freestyle. Saltzman was fourteenth (2:01.00) with Okoth following behind in fifteenth place (2:03.03). Katie Dunn turned in great swim in the 100-yard backstroke. She was twelfth in the event with a time of 1:02.28.

The Yeowomen also received top eight performances from divers Christine Martin and Chelsea Lane. Martin was sixth and Lane was eight on three-meter.

Other point contributors for the Yeowomen were Kelin Michael (100-yard butterfly – 23rd place 1:04.86), Lily Wennberg (200-yard freestyle – 18th place 2:02.91), Jordan Jancosek (100 breaststroke – 20th 1:14.29), Alden Gilliom (100-yard breastroke – 24th place 1:17.29), Annika Stridh (100-yard backstroke – 17th 1:04.82), and Alyssa Houser (100-yard backstroke – 21st 1:05.43).

The Yeomen had two swimmers qualify for the B-Final for each of their respective events.

Senior Corey Spiro and first-year teammate Luke Harrison had excellent swims in the 100-yard butterfly. Spiro was tenth (52.51) and Harrison was fifteenth (54.21) in the event.

Chris Pickens swam to a twelfth place (1:45.67) finish in the 200-yard freestyle and Jon Vimr took fourteenth place (1:45.95).

In the 100-yard breastroke, Jebran Haddad and Mike Sabatka both turned solid performances. Haddad was twelfth (1:00.81) and Sabatka followed up in thirteenth (1:02.07). Sabatka also turned in an excellent swim earlier in the 400-yard im with a personal best time of 4:24.79 for twentieth place.

First-year Dylan Jordan had a strong swim in the 100-yard backstroke. He was fourteenth (53.34) in the event.

Other point contributors for the Yeomen were Nick Lashway (400-yard im – 17th 4:19.06), Rob McConkey (100-yard butterfly – 18th 56.30), Johnny Kamitsuka (100-yard butterfly – 24th 59.00), Daniel Kolliner (100-yard breastroke - 24th 1:08.01), and Isaac Bacon (100-yard butterfly – 22nd 56.40).
