Cleveland, Ohio – Wrapping up their regular season, the Oberlin College swim and dive teams traveled north to take on Case Western Reserve on Saturday afternoon. Oberlin's men's team fell to the 15th-ranked men's team 229-64, while the women fell to the 24th-ranked team 245-49.
Opening with the 200-yard medley relay,
Nyrobi Whitfield,
Yoo Soomin,
Kendall McKelvey, and
Maya Edwards clocked in at 1:56.64 for third. The men's team of
James Moll,
Charles Matia,
Leo Powers, and
Zach Black also came in third, this time in 1:37.09.
Chahine Saïd led the field in the field in the 1,000-yard free, earning first-place in 9:56.48. In the other long race,
Miguel Siwady
In the 200-yard free,
Addie Malley clocked a personal best time of 2:08.97. Later in the meet, the sophomore earned another personal best of 2:20.20 in the 200-yard back.
In sprints, Whitfield earned fourth behind a 29.66, while Moll finished fourth with 26.40 in the 50-yard back. In the 50-yard breast, Soomin (32.64) cruised to second-place finish on the women's side, while Matia earned third on the men's side with a personal-best time of 27.95. In the 50-yard fly, McKelvey led the Yeowomen with a 28.57, followed by teammate
Kaylee Johnson in 31.75. On the men's side, Powers clinched a career-best of 23.42.
McKelvey continued the women's streak of top-three finishes, with a 1:03.60 in the 100-yard fly to earn second. Powers secured third on the men's side with a time of 51.84.
At the diving break,
Elizabeth Huettig clinched a college best in the 1-mtr event. With 153.05 points, the junior finished fourth overall.
Yuan Wang represented the Yeomen with a score of 187.50, a personal best of his own and more than enough for second place. Later in the 3-mtr dive, Wang scored another PR of 169.00 for third.
Saïd got the individual events back underway with a strong finish in the 100-yard free, clocking 47.93 for third. Stretching to the men's 100-yard back, Moll touched the pads at 56.96 for third, just ahead of teammates T. Wang (58.48) and
Philip Cauwels (1:09.19). In the 100-yard breast, Soomin added another strong performance to her day with a silver finish in 1:10.77.
Rounding out the meet with the 200-yard free relay, Oberlin's A team of Edwards, Soomin,
Gretchen Lotter, and Whitfield finished bronze in 1:46.56. The men's team of Siwady,
Mark Sferra,
Julian Walls, and T. Wang clocked in at 1:34.34.
The Crimson and Gold take a well-deserved break as they begin their final preparations for the North Coast Athletic Conference Championships in February. The four-day meet is set to begin on Wednesday, February 11 at host-site Denison University in Granville, Ohio.
