Cleveland, Ohio – A talented Case Western Reserve University men's tennis team proved to be too strong for Oberlin College on Saturday morning as it defeated the Yeomen by a 9-0 count at Carlton Courts.
Playing in their first dual match of the year, the Yeomen hung tough with one of the region's best squads, but didn't have enough to secure a point.
In the top doubles flight, sophomore
Charlie Marks and rookie
Soren Zeliger fought hard against Richard Brunsting and John Healey, but fell 8-4.
The closest battle of the day came at No. 2 doubles where
Logan Chun and
Ben Turchin were outlasted by Nicolas Howe and Will Drougas, 8-6.
In singles play, Chun, Oberlin's No. 1, was bested by Drougas in straight sets 6-3, 6-2.
In No. 2 spot, Marks gave Healey all he could handle in the first set before falling 6-4. Healey went on to win the match by taking the second set 6-0.
John Acomb, Turchin, Zeliger and
Sam Towne also fell in flights three through six.
Oberlin will now take the rest of the fall off from competition and begin preparations for its traditional spring season which will begin on February 11 against Malone.
