South Euclid, OH
- The Swimming and Diving Team defeated both Notre Dame College and Ohio Wesleyan this afternoon. It was a good test for the team competing on back to back days for the last time before the North Coast Athletic Conference Championships in 3 weeks.

There was no limit on the number of events that the athletes could enter. Chris Pickens took on the "Iron Swimmer" challenge by competing in every individual event and both relays in the 16-event program.

Even though Pickens did not win an individual event, he was able to score points for the team with every swim. His top performance of the day was a second place finish in the 1000-yard freestyle (10:23.79).

Going with the "Iron Swimmer" theme, Corey Spiro took on the challenge of swimming the 500-yard freestyle event as a 500-yard butterfly. Spiro completed the event breaking the 6 minute barrier with a time of 5:56.97. The last swimmer to complete the feat was 2001 200-yard butterfly NCAA National Champion John Limouze.

The Yeomen received first place performances on the afternoon from Nick Lashway (100-yard backstroke 56.14), Dylan Jordan (200-yard backstroke 2:01.07), and Dimitri Macris (500-yard freestyle 5:08.13).

Junior Jane McIntyre won three individual events on the afternoon for the Yeowomen and teamed up with Anna Saltzman, Kate Melanson and Jenny Meltz to win the 800-yard freestyle relay (8:27.57). McIntyre won the 200-yard butterfly (2:17.02), 200-yard breastroke (2:36.07) and the 400-yard individual medley (4:52.82).

Saltzman won the 100-yard freestyle (57.54) and Melanson won the 500-yard freestyle (5:33.10).

"We had gutsy performances this afternoon. It helped our team mentally prepare for NCAC's in a few weeks. They will be competing in prelims and finals on three consecutive days. The back to back meets this weekend helped show them that they need to be strong both physically and mentally to compete at a high level on consecutive days."

The team returns to action at the NCAC Chapionships from February 10-12 in Canton, OH.
