Yeoswimmers Fall to Polar Bears

Both the Yeomen and Yeowomen swimming and diving teams lost to Ohio Northern University this evening. Despite the loss, Head Coach Mark Fino was pleased with the team's peformance this evening. "Our kids have been training very hard the past two weeks. We had several strong performances tonight in the water and on the boards. I am very proud of the team's determination and perseverance."

First year Chris Pickens was a double event winner in the 1000-yard freestyle (10:19.28) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:01.62). Fellow classmate Dylan Jordan tallied up another victory for the Yeomen in the 100-yard backstroke (55.08).

Senior team captain Jon Vimr came from behind in the 200-yard freestyle to win the race in the last 50-yards with a season best time of 1:48.32. He also swam to a third place finish in the 500-yard freestyle (5:06.10).

Mike Sabatka ended the meet for the Yeomen on a high note when he outtouched an ONU swimmer in a very close 100-yard breastroke race with a season best time of 1:02.84.

The Yeowomen were led by juniors Kate Melanson and Jane McIntyre. Melanson won the 100-yard butterfly (1:01.63) and took third in the 200-yard freestyle (2:02.74). McIntyre won the 200-yard individual medley (2:17.20) and swam to a second place finish in the 100-yard backstroke (1:04.74).

The team also received second place performances from Christine Martin on both one-meter and three-meter diving and Annika Stridh in the 50-yard freestyle (26.44),

The team returns to action next Friday at home against John Carroll.
