Box Score

Oberlin, Ohio – A shorthanded goal by senior Wyatt Hayman in at the 68-minute mark lifted the Oberlin College men's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Case Western Reserve on Saturday night at Fred Shults Field.

With the win Oberlin improves to 3-5 overall and snaps a five-game losing skid.

The Yeomen, who have had their woes finishing in the final third over the last few games, didn't take long to get on the board on this night as Aki Goremezano finished off a corner kick opportunity just 2:50 into the game. Oliver Miller-Farrrell, who took the corner, and Ari Schwartz were each credited with an assist on the play as Schwartz redirected the ball to Goremezano to set him up for the shot.

The Spartans (3-2-2) would add the equalizer in the 27th minute as Vinny Bell followed Alex King's shot off the cross bar.

Oberlin would go down a man at 67:22 as Miller-Farrell was issued a red card, however it was just moments later that Hayman would head in the game-winning goal off a picture perfect set-piece service into the box by Alen Cisija.

Before his departure, Miller-Farrell had a prime scoring chance in the 64th minute but his rifle from 20 yards out hit square of the post.

Making his first start of the season in goal, Chris Sundby was simply sensational as he made five saves on the night.

The Spartans won the statistical battle with a 21-10 edge in shots and 7-4 edge in corners, but the Yeomen got them where it matters most – on the scoreboard.

Oberlin will look to ride the momentum into Muskingum on Wednesday afternoon. The opening touch is set for 4:30 p.m.
