Box Score
Albion, Mich. – Sophomore
Justin Griffiths scored his first collegiate goal and that was all the Oberlin College men's soccer team needed to get past Albion College 1-0 on Wednesday evening.
Griffiths, a native of New York City, scored in the 15th minute and the stingy Oberlin defense made it stand the rest of the way to preserve the win. Junior
Oliver Miller-Farrell got credited with his 15th career assist on the play.
“I am happy for Justin getting his first goal and for us battling here on the road, being shorthanded, but still being able to come away with the win,” Head Coach
Blake New said.
With rain falling throughout the game the two teams managed just nine total shots with six of those coming from the Yeomen.
Matt Capozzi led the Yeomen with two triggers on the day.
Senior goalie
Zach Lipshultz controlled the cage for all 90 minutes and made three saves.
The two foes did play a very physical style with Albion drawing 16 fouls compared to Oberlin's 13. The Yeomen squeezed out the only corner kick attempt of the game.
Oberlin returns home for its next three games. First they will take on Otterbein on Saturday and then Capital on Sunday. Baldwin-Wallace also comes to town next Tuesday. All matches start at 7 p.m.
