Final Team Scores
Springfield, Ohio – The Oberlin College swimming and diving teams competed against Wittenberg University and Baldwin-Wallace College in a double-dual meet on Saturday afternoon.
The Yeowomen dropped a tight 72-68 decision to Wittenberg, but took care of the Yellow Jackets by a score of 90-49. The Yeomen fell to B-W 80-60 and to the Tigers 99.5-40.5.
“Our women could have gotten out of here with a sweep today, but we started off slow,” Head Coach Mark Fino said. “Coming up, we are going to have a lot of back-to-back meets and we need to be able to respond.”
Senior standout
Sara Kadi turned in two wins, taking top honors in the 100-yard free (56.47) and 200-yard IM (2:17.33). She also placed second in the 100-yard back at 1:04.18.
Kate Melanson added a pair of Yeowomen victories. In the 200-yard free style, she touched in at 2:03.65, which was four seconds faster than the second-place finisher. She also won the 100-yard butterfly by a quarter of a second at 1:01.53.
In the 1,000-yard free the Yeowomen placed second and third.
Kelsey Sherman stopped the clock at 11:19.51 and senior
Jenny Meltz completed the course in 11:27.17. Meltz also checked in second in the 500-yard free (5:35.89), while Sherman followed in third (5:37.81).
Jane McIntyre contributed by finishing second in the 200-yard fly (2:18.65) and third in the 100-yard fly (1:03.72).
The Yeowomen foursome of Melanson,
Anna Saltzman,
Jordan Jancosek and Kadi# ended the meet by winning the 400-yard free relay in 3:49.43.
First-year
Chris Pickens led the Yeomen effort with a pair of second-place finishes. The Monterey, California, native posted a mark of 5:01.03 in the 500-yard free and recorded a time of 1:50.97 in the 200-yard free.
Senior
Corey Spiro was victorious in the 100-yard fly as he flew through the water in 55.96. First-year
Luke Harrison was third in the event at 56.54. The tandem also finished second and third in the 200-yard fly. Spiro was in at 2:04.65, while Harrison followed at 2:08.49.
Dimitri Macris continued his solid season thus far by taking second place in the 1,000-yard free with a time of 10:46.57.
Rookie
Dylan Jordan added to the Yeomen success by placing second in the 200-yard back with a time of 2:04.97.
The Yeoswimmers will return to action on December 1 at The College of Wooster Invitational.
