Oberlin, OH - The Oberlin College Swimming and Diving Teams lost to nationally ranked Dension University. The Big Red are currently ranked third on both the men's and women's side.
"Our first years really stepped it up this afternoon. I was very impressed with how they swam and performed on the boards," said Head Coach Mark Fino. "It was a great experience for our team to go up against one of the best teams in the country for our first dual meet of the season."
The Men's Team started off on the right foot in the 400-yard medley relay. The relay team of
Dylan Jordan,
Jebran Haddad,
Corey Spiro and
Jon Vimr clocked in with a time of 3:43.11.
Jordan had a solid swim in the 200-yard backstroke. He took third place with a time of 2:05.62.
Haddad and Spiro also had good swims in their individual events. Haddad took third in the 200-yard breastroke (2:23.53). Spiro turned in a third place of his own in the 200-yard butterfly (2:06.69) just behind first-year teammate
Luke Harrison who took second with a time of 2:06.10.
First year
Chris Pickens turned in a solid performance in the 200-yard freestyle (1:48.21) by taking third place. Pickens also took second place in the 100-yard freestyle (50.17).
On the women's side the team was led by first place performances from
Christine Martin and
Chelsea Lane on both one and three-meter boards.
Lane won one-meter with a score of 198.50. Martin took second on one-meter (184.95) and won three-meter (198.90).
Senior
Sara Kadi turned in a third place finish in the 50-yard freestyle (25.49) and second place in the 200-yard backstroke (2:18.52).
Junior
Jane McIntyre raced to a second place finish in the 200-yard individual medley (2:21.07). Senior
Kelsey Sherman swam to two third place finishes in the 1000-yard freestyle (11:33.39) and 500-yard freestyle (5:38.54).
The team returns to action in two weeks at the Veale Classic hosted by Case Western.
