Box Score
Oberlin, Ohio – The Oberlin College men's soccer team had their North Coast Athletic Conference fate in the balance, but fell short to No. 21 Kenyon 2-1 on Saturday Night at Fred Shults Field.
With the loss Oberlin ends its season at 7-10-1 overall and 4-3-1 in the NCAC. Due to tiebreakers, the Yeomen also find themselves on the outside of the NCAC Tournament field.
“This is a very disappointing after battling so hard all season long and to come this close, it really hurts,” Head Coach
Blake New said.
The Lords (14-1-2, 6-1-1 NCAC) netted the game's first goal in the 24th minute on shot from the top of the box by Felix Hoffman that deflected off an OC defender before making its way into the cage.
Just four minutes later
Oliver Miller-Farrell would add the equalizer with a deep strike that came from just inside the circle. Miller-Farrell also had a goal waived off in the first half as his free kick attempt made its way into the cage, but unfortunately it was indirect free kick meaning another player must touch the ball first before it can be scored.
Just inside the 59-minute mark the Lords would book what would prove to be the game-winning goal, as Peter Nolan would head in a corner kick service from Andrew Parmelee.
The Yeomen continued to fight; earning three corner kicks over the final 15 minutes, but couldn't register a promising look at the goal. Off a free kick in the 87th minute
Evan Atwell did rip off a header towards the net, but unfortunately Lords' keeper Tyler Schatz was right there to make the save.
Senior
Zach Lipshultz, who played in his final game in the crimson and gold, did his part to keep things close as he made 10 saves on the night.
All in all Oberlin was out-shot 19-7 and lost the corner kick battle 9-3.
Seniors
Evan Atwell,
David Lowe,
Wyatt Hayman,
Justin Norman and
Drew Williamson joined Lipshultz as those who were honored at half time.
