Box Score
Oberlin, Ohio – Senior
Skyler Dum scored his sixth goal of the season and junior
Zach Lipshultz recorded his fifth shutout to lift the Oberlin College men's soccer team to a 2-0 victory over Otterbein on Wednesday night at Fred Shults Field.
“This was a great game all the way around,” Head Coach
Blake New said. “It was pretty even throughout, but luckily we were able to come away with the win.”
With the victory Oberlin runs its overall mark to 5-2-2 and improves to a perfect 4-0 on the pristine pasture of Fred Shults Field.
After a scoreless first half, Oberlin finally broke through in the 58th minute when junior
Joshua Brancazio one-timed a picture perfect service from
David Lowe into the lower right side of the goal.
The Yeomen would strike just a minute and a half later as
Pete Sabo used some fancy footwork in the box to draw the defense, before finding a wide open Dum who sent the ball into the lower left corner of the cage.
A great defensive effort by the Yeomen was also critical in earning the win. The backline was able to short-circuit multiple threats by the Cardinals and Lipshultz tied a season-high with nine saves.
The Yeomen finished with a slight 17-16 edge in shots, but both squads had 10 on goal. The two foes also triggered three corner kicks each on the night.
Oberlin returns to action on Saturday afternoon when it travels west for an NCAC battle at Earlham College. The opening touch is set for 3 p.m.
