Delaware, Ohio – Despite a 10-2 advantage on corner kicks and total of control of the first half, the Oberlin College men's soccer team was unable to come away with a win on Friday night as they battled Alma to a 1-1 tie in first round of action of the Adidas Invitational at Ohio Wesleyan University.
Although the two teams fought hard for 110 minutes both goals in the game came less than a minute a part. The Scots struck first at 29:46 into the game, but it didn't take long for the Yeomen to respond as they quickly cashed in off the restart as none other than
Skyler Dum found the back of the net from 22-yards out to even things up just 45 seconds later.
Dum, who is the reining NCAC Player of the Week and was recently named to the d3futbol.com Team of the Week, now has four goals in just three games this season. The senior forward had a couple of looks at the goal to win it both overtimes, but he had a shot in the first OT sail wide and a header in the second extra session fly high. However, the best opportunity for the Yeomen to head home winners came off the foot of
Pete Sabo in the 92nd minute as he sent a shot high from just eight yards away.
Zach Lipshultz had a strong night in the cage as he made four saves over 110 minutes of work.
Both teams triggered 17 shots on the night with five coming on goal for the Scots compared to just three for the Yeomen. In very physically played contest, Alma finished with 27 fouls while Oberlin got whistled 20 times.
Oberlin returns to action tomorrow night at 5 p.m. against Rose-Hulman.
