Greencastle, Ind.
– The Oberlin College men's tennis team dropped two matches Friday to Calvin College and DePauw University, during the first day of competition in the Great Lakes College Association tennis tournament.

The event, hosted by Wabash College in Crawfordsville, Ind. also includes some scheduled matches at nearby DePauw University.

Due to chilly temperatures and inclement weather, Oberlin and Calvin played the morning indoors and to decision. OC fell 5-0 to the Central Region's 11th ranked squad. Calvin jumped out to a 3-0 lead following a doubles sweep and secured the needed fourth and fifth points by winning singles matches at No. 3 and 6.

Ben Godlove and Joe Leffler contributed the best effort of the morning as they put together some nice tennis challenging the quality duo of Zielstra and DeMaagd. The Yeomen twosome pushed the Calvin pairing, ranked 9th in the region, to an 8-5 result.

Facing a very competitive DePauw squad the Yeomen had few answers for the Tigers, who rank 18th in the nation in the latest Campbell/ITA College Tennis Rankings poll.

Oberlin was again held in check during doubles action as they were able to win just three games in the three matches and were only able to take six sets from top twenty Tigers during singles play.

The Yeomen will be in action again tomorrow as they face Wabash College at 10:30 a.m. in Crawfordsville, Ind.
