Yeoswimmers Falter at Allegheny

Final Results

Meadville, Pa. –
First-year Grace Aheron continued her outstanding rookie season, but in the end it wasn't enough as the Yeowomen fell to Allegheny 162-130, while the Yeomen were bested 162-91 in NCAC Swimming action on Friday night.

Aheron set a new school record in the 200-yard butterfly with an NCAA 'B' cut time of 2:08.41. She also won the 500-yard free in 5:17.84.

“While I was excited for Grace, today was a learning experience for us,” Head Coach Mark Fino said. “We learned we have to be at the top of our game if we are going to win and tonight we were not. I felt we kind of overlooked this meet with tomorrow being our first home meet. So I know we are eager to get back in the pool tomorrow and show we are much better than the way we swam tonight.”

Laura Fries also had a strong meet for the Yeowomen, winning the 100-yard back (1:02.94) and 200-yard back (2:15.02).

First-year Kate Melanson (1:02.12) and sophomore Sara Kadi (1:02.63) claimed the top two spots in the 100-yard butterfly.

The foursome of Fries, Kadi, Melanson and Shannon Gallagher kicked off the meet by winning the 200-yard medley relay in 1:56.47.

Chris Canning (100-yard back/57.88), Dimitri Macris (200-yard butterfly/2:06.86), Nick Lashway (50-yard free/22.96), James Foust (100-yard free/49.78) all turned in second place finishes in events for the Yeomen.

Oberlin returns to action tomorrow afternoon when it welcomes both Wittenberg University and Baldwin-Wallace to town for a 3 p.m. double dual meet at the Robert Carr Pool.
