August 29 – It was a special evening for the Oberlin College men's soccer team as they did not disappoint a capacity crowd at Fred Shults Field by coming away with a 3-1 victory over Heidelberg on Friday night.
The Yeomen, opening their season under season under the lights at the newly finished state-of-art Fred Shults Field, started off slow but the offense came to life in the second half with three goals.
“This was an absolutely amazing night,” head coach
Blake New said. “The crowd support was outstanding and they got to see a great game at a top notch facility. I couldn't think of a better way to start our season.”
After falling behind 1-0 12 minutes into the match, OC responded in the second session as
Skyler Dum scored his first of two goals by dribbling past the goalie after receiving a long pass from
Oliver Miller-Farrell.
Then
Evan Atwell put the Yeomen ahead for good in the 69th-minute with header into the top corner of the goal off of a beautiful cross from
Dan Jaffe. Eleven minutes later, Dum added an insurance goal as he received a deep ball from Jaffe and beat the goalie one-one-one.
