Meet Results
Nov. 22 - The Oberlin Women's swimming and diving team put the hurt on Baldwin-Wallace today, winning their dual meet by a score of 124-98 in Berea, Ohio. While the entire women's team swam very well a number of performances were critical in the dual meet victory.
Senior
Bryne Ulmschneider led the way for the Yeowomen with a convincing 12 second victory in the 500 yard freestyle (5:35.92) and completed a successful double also winning the 200 yard freestyle in a time of 2:03.48. The 200 yard free was perhaps the best event for the Yeowomen as they swept the top three spots. First-year
Jane McIntyre took second (2:05.65) and fellow rookie
Claire Baytas rounded out the top three in a time of 2:07.33.
Other event winners for the women included
Sara Kadi who dominated the 200 yard Individual Medley winning with a swim also 12 seconds ahead of second place. First-year
Flora Samis eked out a win in the 50 yard freestyle out-touching senior Kate Ritchey of Baldwin-Wallace by seven one-hundreths of a second. Sophomore #Kelsey Sherman also landed on top of the podium with a win in the 1000 yard freestyle in a time of 11:22.97. Sophomore
Jordan Jancosek splashed out a win in the 100 yard freestyle and the aforementioned McIntyre was victorious in the 100 yard butterfly. Baytas who placed with McIntyre and Ulmschneider in the 200 yard free finished a solid day with a win in the 100 yard backstroke.
On the men's side the results were not as kind to Oberlin as they fell to BW 147-90. The standout highlight for the Yeomen was a win in the 200 Medley Relay and setting a new pool record in the process. Members of that team were freshmen
Nick Lashway,
Bud Stracker, and
Jebran Haddad along with senior
Scott McInerney.
Sophomore
Corey Spiro also had a good day as he won the 100 yard butterfly and the 200 Individual Medley. The only other individual winners on the men's side were Lashway (100 backstroke) and senior
Mark Muthersbaugh (200 freestyle).
Head Coach Mark Fino said, “Both teams really swam well today and I was certainly proud of the effort all around. The truth of today was that B-W just had a bunch of unbelievable swims. And on the men's side they really stole the show. Hopefully both of our teams saw their performance today and next time this happens we will be on the other side. All things considered it was a good day for us in the pool!”
