Box Score
October 28 – It appeared that the Oberlin College men's soccer team scored in the final seconds of double overtime, but the goal was waived off due to a foul call – resulting in a 0-0 double overtime tie against Kenyon College on Tuesday.
With just 16 seconds left to go, Oberlin goal keeper
Zach Lipshultz pushed up the field to take a free kick near midfield. His deep ball forced Kenyon keeper, Jamie White, to charge out of the box to defend, but the ball squirted away from him – eventually finding its way into the back of the net – but it was all-for-not as the mad scramble in the box resulted in an OC foul before the goal was scored.
“We played really well and kept them in check all day long by working to control possession,” head coach
Blake New said. “Although they out-shot us, they really never had real legitimate scoring opportunity. I just wish we were able to finish off some of the chances we had.”
After going without a tie all season, the Yeomen have now ended even with their opponents in each of the last two matches. Unfortunately, this tie all but eliminates their chances at a postseason berth in the NCAC Tournament.
The Lords (10-6-2, 4-3-1 NCAC) triggered 22 shots compared to 11 for Oberlin (8-8-2, 2-4-2). However, the Yeomen did out-shoot Kenyon 5-4 during the two overtime periods.
The match was played very physical on both sides as Kenyon checked in with 13 fouls with Oberlin committing 11 infractions of its own.
Lipshultz finished with six saves in 110 minutes of work.
The Yeomen concluded their season this Saturday with an 11 a.m. tilt at Wabash
